Whether a consumer is looking to buy liquor, get a dirt bike repaired or seeking legal advice, more and more of them are turning to the Internet to find out what kind of goods or services are available, thus making it smart business for a company to have a presence online.

A Web site can make or break a business, depending on the level of creativity on the site.

Houston-based 2 Wheel Outlet provides access to the best deals and the best dealers of motorcycles and recreational vehicles. For their Web site, they needed a new look that would appeal to dealers and consumers.

That’s where Boss Creative came in to help relaunch their site. Boss rebranded the 2 Wheel’s logo and accentuated the high-end design and engineering of the vehicles to let the firm showcase itself through high-quality photos and a more sophisticated interface with the user.

Search Engine Optimization

We’ve all had the experience of looking for specific information on the Internet, typing what seems like a pretty clear phrase into the search bar, and getting a mixed list of useful and not-so-useful websites on the results page. Wading through irrelevant sites can be very annoying, especially when they seem so promising from the description. Chances are good that the more useful sites are near the top of the list. So put the shoe on the other foot: do you want to be a source of irritation in your potential customer’s search efforts, or the knight in shining armor at the top of the page? What you need, my friend, is a strong SEO campaign.

SEO is about making your site as “findable” as possible in the vast sea of websites on the World Wide Web, which means configuring them so search engines like Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, Ask, Lycos and others can find your information easily and index that information in their directories. Sites near the top of a search engine results page (SERP) are said to have high page rank, and they tend to be more relevant. Numerous studies - from eye-tracking to click-through rates – have shown that websites in the top few positions of SERP’s get the greatest traffic. Those lower down the list get lonely, and many users don’t even bother with page 2 or beyond. Think of it in retail terms. You can have the most stunning, well-stocked showroom in town, but if nobody can find it, you won’t sell much.

Branding

As a marketing concept, most businesses are familiar with the term “branding” and have used it to some degree in how they present themselves to the public. But familiarity often breeds neglect, and most companies never grasp the full potential of the process. There’s more to branding than having a nice logo and a catchy sales pitch, which is why “branding” is commonly referred to as “corporate identity”. It goes well beyond a recognizable label on product shelves.

Effective branding captures the essence of a company’s aspirations, how it relates to customers and employees, and how that business or product line fits into the grand scheme of things. Effective brands convey a consistent corporate identity to clients in direct and peripheral ways, across a range of media.  Beyond the immediate marketing angle, branding can also shape employee and stakeholder attitudes about the business and their relationship to it.

Taking Your Business Online

Every business needs a website. Whether you’re selling widgets on the open market or providing services to pre-screened clientele, most people go directly to the internet to find out what goods and services are available, who is providing them, and even to get contact information for businesses they already deal with. The phone book is a last resort, if they think about it at all. Having an online presence is essential, but the problem is this: with so many websites out there, how do you make yours stand out? How do you get one at all? What do you need to know to make it work?

This is the first in a series of articles presented by Boss Creative to answer common questions about creating and maintaining a business website. Some companies are fortunate enough to have in-house IT experts, others are left to wade through the jargon-laden information on the World Wide Web or in trade publications – which generally assume you already know what they’re talking about. A good web developer will walk you through the process. Unfortunately, a lot of designers don’t understand the “big picture” either. Our goal is to give readers enough knowledge to get what they need out of their websites.

Search Engine Optimization

We don’t usually brag, but we’re pretty excited with the results we’ve had from our new website and our renewed focus on SEO. These days it’s not enough to have a great looking website (although it helps). With users and search engines getting more savvy all the time, their expectations are higher. We started with a complete redesign of our site, launching the new one in July. Since then we’ve been taking everything we know about SEO and refining it, doing more research, and applying our hyper-charged, concentrated, super-duper secret formulas to our site and a handful of dedicated clients. Like all mad scientists, we experiment on ourselves first. We’re happy to report that we’re not only alive and well, but thriving. We don’t have x-ray vision, psychic powers or invisibility figured out yet, but we are seeing excellent results on the SERP’S.
